'Nights in Rodanthe' opens in theatres everywhere today, and stars Richard Gere and Diane Lane sat down with ET's Kevin Frazier to talk about the movie -- and the real-life hurricane that swept over the movie's set!
"We came to shoot -- [the movie] takes place in a hurricane -- and in fact a real hurricane had just come in and destroyed the set, taking the beach away!" says Richard.
"For real," adds Diane.
First co-starring in 'The Cotton Club' in 1984 and then 18 years later in 'Unfaithful,' Gere and Lane put their chemistry to the test a third time in 'Rodanthe,' the story of a married mother who travels to a tiny North Carolina coastal town to escape her personal demons. Tending to a friend's inn for the weekend, she finds herself weathering a major storm with an enticing doctor -- and igniting a romance that could change their lives forever.
"It's poignant, not tragic," says Diane of the story.
"I think [audiences] are going to cry, but that doesn't mean it's not happy -- it's human. These characters have been transformed in a positive way."
So what's it like kissing onscreen again? "There is a comfort level that makes it easy for sure," Richard says about his smooches with Diane, adding, "I never take it for granted."
