Samuel L. Jackson takes a dark turn in his new urban thriller, 'Lakeview Terrace,' and the top box office star joined forces Monday night with the film's superstar producer, Will Smith, for their big New York premiere!

"It's just such a powerful concept, the idea of it, almost a reverse racism," Will tells ET. "Sam, that thing he's got in his eyes -- it's just a great concept."

Will made the night a family affair, bringing fashionable wife Jada Pinkett Smith and introducing Caleb Pinkett, who also appears in the movie.

We asked Will if he'd be up for playing Barack Obama on "Saturday Night Live," and he laughingly replied, "That's great! As soon as he writes the end of the story; we're going to help him write the end of the story in the next couple of weeks."

Sam says that working with Will as a producer "was great -- kind of hands off, hands on," and also addressed the current election climate, saying, "Like it or not, we've got a race that centers on race and gender. It's scary, but hopefully the country will realize we do need change, and our perception of the world needs to be upgraded."

Star Jones also came out to cheer on her friends, but she became immediately mum when the subject turned to her new beau Herb Wilson, the executive chef of Tribeca Grand in New York City!

In theaters Friday, 'Lakeview Terrace' finds Jackson as a stern, straight-laced LAPD cop whose vigilance crosses the line when a newlywed couple (Patrick Wilson and Kerry Washington) moves in next door. Disapproving of their interracial relationship, Jackson's persistent intrusions on the couple begin to generate a deadly tension when they decide to fight back.
