Hello, Dolly! Sit down, pour yourself a cup of ambition, and get ready for the opening night of the highly anticipated musical stage adaptation of the film '9 to 5'! ET has the divine Dolly Parton gushing over her musical adaptation of her ballbustin' '80s movie.
"I was in the movie almost 30 years ago. Now that I am still working my '9 to 5' job, it's an amazing thing. I am very excited to be a part of this," Dolly tells ET.
"I really think that the movie back then had a really great influence on everything," she adds. "Of course, we still have some of the same problems but it made for a wonderful musical. It's like it was always meant to be."
The original film featured the fabulous Dolly, as well as the all-star cast of Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Dabney Coleman. It follows the three ladies as they take their careers in their own hands after being treated terribly for too long by their sexist boss (Dabney). They resort to tying the cad up in his own home and taking over his company to great results!
Dolly and the rest of the girls explain that 30 years later, the message is still very relevant to the problems women face today and feel that the audience will still very much connect with the stage adaptation's message.
The hilarious new musical stars TV and film vet Allison Janney, and Wicked stars Megan Hilty and Stephanie J. Block.
"The story being told in '9 to 5' has incredible resonance today. ... I love it because there's such a heart ... in this play," Janney confesses.
The fabulously talented ladies discuss the pressures of looking good and staying slim in Hollywood, but say, luckily, that this show is different. "They celebrate women's curves in this show," says the sexy Hilty.
Much to the delight of the play's cast, the cast of the film -- Coleman, Parton, Fonda, and Tomlin -- are all expected to be at Saturday night's premiere. 9 to 5 runs from Sept. 20 to Oct 19 in Los Angeles' at the Ahmanson Theater and opens on Broadway April 23, 2009.
