Following in the footsteps of Brad Pitt, film icon Steven Spielberg and his wife Kate Capshaw have donated $100,000 to "No on 8," a campaign fighting against a proposed constitutional ban on same-sex marriage, Variety reports.
The proposition would accept marriage only as a union between a woman and a man.
"By writing discrimination into our state constitution, Proposition 8 seeks to eliminate the right of each and every citizen in our state to marry regardless of sexual orientation," the couple said in a statement to Variety. "Such discrimination has NO place in California's constitution, or any other."
A recent field poll indicates that 55 percent of voters say they will vote no to the proposed amendment, while 38 percent say they will support it, Variety reports.
However, "Yes on 8" supporters have raised $16.2 million, compared to $10.8 million been raised by the "No on 8" campaign, the paper says.
