In a sad turn of events, "Dancing with the Stars" Olympic gold-medalist Misty May-Treanor is out of the competition due to an injury sustained last Friday. Fellow contestant Brooke Burke told listeners today in an interview with 104.3 MY FM's Valentine that the beach volleyball player's injury to her Achilles tendon has rendered it impossible for her to continue in the grueling dance competition.
"It's such a sad situation ... she did hurt her Achilles tendon, I don't know if she tore it or she ruptured it," Brooke said. "It happened last week. She's out of the competition, I mean just like that."
Misty's reps denied rumors that the Olympian broke her ankle but did confirm that she had "sustained an injury on Friday and received immediate medical attention."
Brooke also spoke of her dismay not only at Misty's curtailed time dancing but also her future career as a pro volleyball player.
"The sad thing about Misty is, forget about the competition, this is her jumping mechanism," Brooke lamented. "We are all really concerned for her. She may be having surgery this week, but we don't know yet."
