After surviving the tragic Learjet crash that killed four people last month, former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker is opening up about that terrifying night in Columbia, S.C.
The 32-year-old tattooed drummer, who was severely burned in the crash, tells Us Weekly about his immense fear of flying. He reportedly avoided airplanes and drove across the country by bus with his father and ex-wife Shanna Moakler, says the mag.
"I hate planes," Travis says. ""My biggest fear ever is to be involved in a plane crash, so when that happened ... well, I'm just thankful to be alive! I'm just grateful to be here at all."
Travis and fellow musician DJ-AM were the only two survivors of the crash that killed two pilots, as well as Travis' bodyguard and assistant.
He is being treated at a Los Angeles burn hospital after his release from a Georgia hospital last week.
"I am doing the best I can possibly be," Travis tells Us. "I'm so anxious to get out of here. ... I've just been in surgery after surgery. I have third-degree burns basically from my feet up to my waist and both hands. One of my hands has second-degree burns and one has third-degree burns."
He goes on to tell the mag, "I'm trying to have a quick recovery and play the drums again and be able to hold my kids again. I'm going nuts not being able to see them and spend time with them"
Travis and Shanna have a 5-year-old son, Landon, and a two-year-old daughter, Alabama.
Doctors say the drummer is expected to make a full recovery from his injuries.
