Joaquin Phoenix is leaving his acting career behind to pursue another avenue of entertainment – and he's putting it in writing.

Joaquin, 34, posed at the American Film Institute festival on Saturday with writing on his knuckles that read, "Bye! Good." The AFI festival in Los Angeles was premiering Steven Soderbergh's new film 'Che,' starring Benicio Del Toro.

Joaquin told ET's Mark Steines at a recent event honoring Paul Newman that he is retiring from acting to focus on music!

Joaquin earned an Academy Award nomination for his role as Johnny Cash in 'Walk the Line.' He learned to play guitar and did his own singing for the film.
