'Twilight' hunk Robert Pattinson's co-star Kristen Stewart has been tapped to portray a rock star from a '70s all-girl band.

Stewart will play Joan Jett, who got her start with The Runaways, which also included Lita Ford and Cherri Currie, Variety reports. The band -- best known for the hit song "Cherry Bomb" -- was influential in the music scene of the late '70s and early '80s.

Shooting on the film 'The Runaways' is to begin in early 2009 and will accommodate Stewart's commitment to the 'Twilight' sequel 'New Moon,' which is also scheduled to be in the works around the same time.

Joan Jett continued her rock career in the '80s after forming the Blackhearts, which enjoyed success with hits including "I Love Rock N' Roll" and "I Hate Myself for Loving You."
