ET has confirmed that actor/playwright Sam Shepard has been arrested for drunken driving -- and we have the latest details!
Police Lt. Mark Kotte tells ET that Shepard was pulled over around 2 a.m. Saturday in Normal, Ill., after the 65-year-old actor was speeding by driving 16 mph over the legal speed limit of 30 mph.
Shepard's blood alcohol level was over the legal limit based on a breath test administered by authorities, Kotte said.
The actor, known for his film roles in 'Steel Magnolias' and 'Crimes of the Heart,' told police he was driving through town on his way home to Kentucky from Minnesota, but had stopped at a tavern nearby. The actor posted bail in Bloomington, Ill.
The Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright has been the longtime beau of actress Jessica Lange.
