ET gets an update from Grammy Award-winner Natalie Cole on her condition following health problems related to her battle against hepatitis C.
The singer tells ET that she is hoping to have a kidney transplant in the near future. On the prospect of receiving a new kidney, Natalie says, "We certainly hope so. We just don't know when. My son may be a possible match, which would be great. It's very sweet and kind of strange to have people offer something like that. It's a big deal for the recipient more than it is for the donor, because they've got two kidneys and we just need one!"
"I'm not looking forward to it, but in the end it'll be worth it," Natalie says of a possible transplant and the long recovery period, during which she would not be able to work.
The 58-year-old also tells ET that she is trying to stay positive and is optimistic about the future. "Things happen for a reason, I've always been kind of a survivor type of girl," she says. "I'm strong, I have a lot of faith. I'm looking forward to having a good year. In spite of the health issues I think I'm going to be fine."
Cole spoke to ET at the Grammy Salute to Jazz in Los Angeles -- which kicks off a week-long celebration of music leading up to the 51st annual Grammy Awards being held this Sunday, February 8. The Grammys will be broadcast live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on CBS at 8 p.m.
