Street artist Shepard Fairey -- whose poster of President Barack Obama became the iconic image of his campaign -- has been arrested in Boston, MA.

A spokesperson for the Boston Police Department tells ET that Fairey was taken into custody Friday night on two outstanding warrants -- one issued in February 2000 and the other one last Friday - both accusing him of tagging property with graffiti. He was released Saturday morning on $1,500 bail and is due in court on Monday, the spokesperson said.

Last year, Fairey created a special image for TIME magazine's Person of the Year issue that echoed and expanded on his original work to feature a rich, multi-layered red, white and blue poster of the president.
