Academy Award winner George Clooney did not attend Oscar night but rather met with President Barack Obama early Monday morning.

Clooney spoke on CNN's "Larry King Live" about meeting with the president and Vice President Joe Biden where he discussed the humanitarian crisis in Sudan's Darfur. The actor said he suggested a full-time regional envoy to be appointed who would report directly to the White House.

"We need somebody working on this, you know, every day -- getting up every morning with their sole job to find peace in the area," he told King via satellite in front of the White House.

The actor said he talked to the president about his visit to camps in Chad where 250,000 refugees live. "I think somehow we should all know that these people are hanging on by the skin of their teeth," Clooney said.

During his visit to Chad, Clooney said he saw a lot of "fear" but also a lot of confidence in moving toward peace. "You know, there was a lot of hope that these indictments and this new administration are going to be able to help move the international community toward -- toward a real peace," he said.

In 2007, Clooney participated in a documentary with his 'Ocean's 11' costar Don Cheadle called 'Darfur Now.' The film examined the crisis in Sudan's western region.
