ET was there as John Mayer teamed up with "American Idol" winner Jordin Sparks and other musicians to raise money for a good cause.
The One Splendid Evening event took place Thursday night aboard the spectacular (Carvinal) Splendor -- the cruise company's largest and most innovative ship to date -- which was docked at the Port of Los Angeles. Other performers delighting the crowd were Gavin Rossdale, O.A.R., Sara Bareilles, Guster and Erin McCarley.
Watch the video to hear Mayer's thoughts on his upcoming four-day Mayercraft Carrier 2 music cruise, which gives fans the chance to get up close and personal with the singer while cruising aboard the Splendor ship. Mayer also talks to ET about his admiration for Sparks and her talent, and about staying in touch with his fans on Twitter.
Sparks speaks to ET about being a part of the special event, performing with Mayer, and looks ahead to her exciting tour with the Jonas Brothers.
"I've always heard a lot about save the music but this is the first time of me really being involved with something for it," Sparks says. "So to be a part of this I'm very, very excited. It's really instrumental, I did sports and other things but music was what I loved to do. I think it's really instrumental that we keep it in schools because there are a lot of kids like me who may not be athletic or who may not like chess club."
The evening benefited VH1's Save the Music Foundation, which is dedicated to restoring instrumental music in America's public schools and raising awareness about the importance of music as part of a child's complete education.
