The star-studded 63rd Annual Tony Awards kicked off at New York City's Radio City Music Hall on Sunday night with a bevy of stars performing, including Dolly Parton and Elton John. Read on to see who the big winners were on Broadway's biggest night …

The show, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, began with an opening number that featured performances by Liza Minnelli, Dolly Parton, Elton John, metal band Poison, and the cast of several different productions. Poison lead singer Bret Michaels hit his head at the end of his band's performance in the opening number. It is unclear whether he was injured or not.

Other stars who appeared at the awards show included Anne Hathaway, James Gandolfini, Jessica Lange, and Stockard Channing.

It was British musical Billy Elliot that took top honors at the Tonys, winning 10 awards, including Best Musical and Leading Actor in a Musical -- an award that went to three young actors who share the role, David Alvarez, Trent Kowalik and Kiril Kulish.

The musical, which follows the son of a coal miner who dreams of becoming a dancer, also won Best Director of a Musical (Stephen Daldry), among other awards.

God of Carnage, a comedy by Yasmina Reza, won Best Play, best Lead Actress in a Play (Marcia Gay Harden), and Best Direction of a Play (Matthew Warchus).

Geoffrey Rush took the award for best Leading Actor in a Play for his role playing a dying monarch in Exit the King, while Angela Lansbury took home an award in the best Featured Actress category for Blithe Spirit.

A surprised Liza Minnelli won Special Theatrical Event for Liza's at The Palace.
