ET was at the red carpet premiere of 'Cheri' in New York on Tuesday night, where we spoke with the film's stars, Michelle Pfeiffer and Kathy Bates about the 1920s period fantasy!

Michelle and Kathy tell ET what it was like making the film, including having to don elaborate costumes for their roles.

"They were beautiful to look at," Michelle says of the costume pieces. "They were not quite as fun to wear, but they sort of help you get the feeling of being in another place and time."

The film, out in theaters on June 26, is an adaptation of the 1920s French novel by Colette. 'Cheri' finds Michelle as an older woman grappling with middle age who teaches a wealthy young man (Rupert Friend) in the ways of love. But when he is forced to end the relationship after marrying someone else, he retreats into a fantasy world.

Also starring Felicity Jones, 'Cheri' was directed by Stephen Frears ('The Queen,' 'The Grifters').
