Joy Behar's outspoken opinions on "The View" have landed her a new gig. She will be the host of an eponymous TV talk show on HLN.

"I have a background perfect for this job," Behar jokes at the Television Critics Association press event for her new series. "I was married, divorced, gave birth and was a high school teacher."

Behar says the impetus for the show is that there are topics that she would love to discuss more than the time that "The View" allows. The program will examine provocative watercooler issues that Americans are talking about every day, with topics ranging from pop culture to politics and everything in between.

"If [the gals from 'The View'] have great stories, or great opinions, we will have them on," she says. "I love having my arguments with Elisabeth Hasselbeck, so we could do them over there. Whoopi Goldberg has great opinions. Barbara Walters is a living legend. Sherri Shepherd is coming along and doing great. All of them would be great."

One other interview that Behar says she would like to book is Sarah Palin. When asked why Palin should do it, she says, "She might get a real conversation from another woman out of me. I am not trying to get her. When Katie Couric asked, 'What do you read,' she couldn't come up with an answer. I want to ask her why she couldn't think of anything."

In looking back at her time on "The View," Behar says that the year that Rosie O'Donnell was there was a very interesting year for her.

"It was very volatile," she recalls. "Rosie came in and ruffled feathers and threw herself around. We got good numbers. It seemed to be amiable at the end of the day. Sometimes, I thought I could live without it. Sometimes, I got into it. That is the nature of 'The View.' Every day is a new story: Who is having a breakdown? Who is having a good time? Who is having a baby? It is a reality show of the highest nature."

"The Joy Behar Show" will premiere on September 28 at 9 p.m. on HLN.
