A 22-year-old woman has sued David Copperfield for sexual assault, and claims that the magician threatened her while staying with him on a private island in the Bahamas.
Copperfield's lawyers Angelo Calfo and Patty Eakes have denied the claims and released a statement in response to the allegations.
"This lawsuit is extortion for money, plain and simple," Copperfield's lawyers say. "Unfortunately, false claims like this only hurt the women who really have been abused, women who really need our help."
According to the Seattle Times, reports of the alleged incident surfaced over two years ago, but the 22-year-old woman filed charges against Copperfield on July 29 in federal court in Seattle.
