Chris Brown was officially sentenced in L.A. on Tuesday afternoon after his hearing was pushed up from August 27 -- and he's been ordered to not contact his former girlfriend Rihanna for five years.

The judge sentenced Brown to receive five years of probation, six months of community labor in Virginia (his home state), and ordered him to not contact Rihanna and keep 100 yards away from her -- 10 yards if they both attend a music biz event -- for the next five years.

The R&B star's community labor will be supervised by the Richmond, VA chief of police.

The judge also ordered Brown to return to the L.A. courthouse in a few months for an update on the progress he'll have made with his labor assignment and domestic violence counseling.

Brown pleaded guilty to felony assault in June relating to a domestic violence incident involving his then-girlfriend Rihanna.
