"America's Most Wanted" returns for its 23rd season tonight telling the story of an incredibly brave girl who survived a vicious, near-fatal attack and, who as an adult, still waits for her attacker to be taken off the streets.
The woman in question is Jennifer Schuett, who was kidnapped almost 20 years ago when she was just eight years old in Dickinson, TX by a stranger.
She was kidnapped out of her bedroom window, raped, her throat was slit and she was left to die in a field. She survived for the 10 hours it took for someone to discover her.
But her suffering wasn't over. She was in intensive care and it took her months to get her voice back. Now she is using her voice to try to track down the man who left her to die.
"I met Jennifer Schuett on location this week filming the show, and I was absolutely awed by her strength and her presence and what she went through," series host John Walsh says. "She was left in the field on top of a fire ant pile with her throat slit ear to ear, and she didn't die. Some kids found her in the middle of the day, and she is fighting back."
To date, "America's Most Wanted" has helped in the capture of 1,088 fugitives worldwide in 35 countries, and has helped remove 17 men from the FBI's 10 Most Wanted list over the years.
Also on the season premiere, airing tonight at 9 p.m. on FOX, "America's Most Wanted" will help in the hunt for a Texas babysitter accused of killing a two-year-old girl.
