Suzanne Somers sends her condolences to the family of the late Patrick Swayze and issues an apology for a comment she gave that was made public, she says, without her knowledge.

"In a casual conversation at a private party (with someone who never identified himself as a reporter) at the Toronto Film Festival last week, I was asked about this beloved actor. It was never my intention to make an official statement about his passing," Somers wrote on her blog, referring to a comment she made about Swayze's cancer treatments.

Somers reportedly talked about Swayze to a Toronto-based columnist of the National Post, saying, "They took this beautiful man and they basically put poison in him. ... Why couldn't they have built him up nutritionally and gotten rid of the toxins in his body? I hate to be this controversial. I'm a singer-dancer-comedienne. But we have an epidemic going on, and I have to say it."

She continues on her blog, "I sincerely apologize if my comment has caused any additional pain to his family during this difficult time. I send my deepest condolences for their loss."

The 'Dirty Dancing' actor passed away at 57 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Somers says of Swayze, "I was a major fan of Patrick's work, and would never do anything to hurt him or his family. His tremendous talent has been preserved on film for generations to come to observe and enjoy. It is truly sad that his life was cut short and that we will not be able to follow his continued growth as a one of our greatest performers."
