According to the ancient Mayan calendar, a cataclysmic event will occur on December 21, 2012. This armageddon-esque event is chronicled in the film '2012,' which premiered Tuesday night in Los Angeles. Stars of the movie disclosed to ET what their plans are for that impending date.
John Cusack said, "Roland [Emmerich], the director, had a good idea. He said we should try to go skiing, so if we're up on top of the mountain, we'll see the wave coming."
The actor further explained the premise of the film. "I know the Mayan calendar was a great sundial and it was also one of the most intricate time calendars there was, so all those pyramids were…sort of time machines that would tell you exactly on the day or the month or the year…so on that date, it just stops."
Thandie Newton will go on with her business as usual, saying, "It'll be four days before Christmas, so I guess we'll just be doing what we do every year, quite honestly." She optimistically added, "I like to try and concentrate on being in the moment…I'm just lucky to have today, tomorrow possibly, so I try and live life like that."
Actress Amanda Peet addressed the message communicated through the feature. She told ET, "Roland is a master storyteller and entertainer, so of course he is trying to scare people, but he's also trying to give everybody a really fun ride and there's definitely a message of unity at the end...It's a great equalizer when there's a catastrophe and I think we all hope that that's how we would be."
"American Idol" runner up Adam Lambert was excited to make his big screen debut by contributing to the soundtrack of '2012.' He said, "I've never been part of feature film before. The soundtrack I think is going to be wonderful. I'm really kind of apprehensive about hearing my song at the end of the movie. It's going to be pretty surreal."
Giving audiences three years to prepare for the looming cataclysm, '2012' floods theaters on November 13.
