There was no upstaging Taylor Swift at the 43rd Annual CMA Awards in Nashville on Wednesday night. The 19-year-old singer/songwriter became the youngest-ever winner of the entertainer of the year award and captured four trophies in all.
"I will never forget this moment because in this moment everything that I have ever wanted has happened to me," an emotional Taylor said after being named entertainer of the year.
She also scored awards for best female vocalist, best album (Fearless) and best music video ("Love Story"), adding good-naturedly while accepting the vocalist award: "I want to thank every single person in this room tonight for not running up on the stage during this speech."
Co-hosts Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood also poked fun at Taylor's encounter with Kanye West at the "2009 MTV Video Music Awards," singing: "Mamas don't let your babies grow up to be Kanye … because cowboys have manners, they don't interrupt."
Other big winners of the evening included Mr. Paisley (best male vocalist), Lady Antebellum (best single, "I Run to You", and best vocal group), Jamey Johnson (best song, "In Color"), Darius Rucker (best new artist), and Sugarland (best vocal duo) and Mac McAnally (best musician).
The show also featured a whole lot of music! Taylor kicked things off with a high-energy rendition of "Forever and Always," prowling the stage in a chic black outfit and even hurling a prop chair. Later in the evening she showcased her acoustic side, strumming "Fifteen" in the center of a sea of fans singing along with her.
Other stars who performed included Darius Rucker ("Alright"), Miranda Lambert ("White Liar"), Brad Paisley ("Welcome to the Future"), The Zac Brown Band ("The Devil Went Down to Georgia"), George Strait ("Twang"), Lady Antebellum ("Need You Now"), Carrie Underwood ("Country Casanova"), Daughtry and Vince Gill ("Tennessee Line"), Keith Urban ("'Til Summer Comes Around"), Tim McGraw ("Southern Voice"), Sugarland ("Keep You"), Jamey Johnson and Kid Rock ("Between Jennings And Jones"), Jason Aldean ("Big Green Tractor"), Martina McBride ("I Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool"), Reba McEntire, Billy Currington, Kenny Chesney with Dave Matthews ("I'm Alive") and -- making their reported final CMA appearance together -- Brooks & Dunn ("Honky Tonk Stomp").
Celeb presenters included Kid Rock, Kellie Pickler, Naomi and Wynonna Judd, Julianne Hough, LeAnn Rimes, Leann Womack, Kris Kristofferson, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw. Nicole Kidman, on hand to support hubby Keith Urban, was spotted in the crowd.
