She's a chart-topping vocal powerhouse and worldwide singing sensation -- and now Mariah Carey is being recognized for her stellar acting.
The five-time Grammy-award winner is set to receive the Breakthrough Performance Award for her performance in 'Precious: Based on the Novel Push By Sapphire' at the 21st Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards gala.
The awards show will be held on January 5 at the Palm Springs Convention Center and will be hosted by ET's own Mary Hart.
"We're delighted to be able to present the Breakthrough Performance Award to the extraordinary, very beautiful and versatile Mariah Carey, who, in a critically acclaimed role, completely transformed herself from a glamorous music icon to a forthright social worker for the role of Ms. Weiss in 'Precious,'" festival chairman Harold Matzner said.
Previous stars to receive the award include Jennifer Hudson, Marion Cotillard and Freida Pinto.
