Denzel Washington battles his way across the desolate wasteland of a near-future America in 'The Book of Eli,' in theaters January 15, and we've got an exclusive first look at new footage from the movie!

"There's a saying: There's no testimony without a test," says Denzel. "It has some elements of a Western in it -- the loner who comes to town."

Directed by Allen and Albert Hughes, 'The Book of Eli' is set 30 years after the final war, in a post-apocalyptic wasteland where there's no law, barely any food or water, and men kill to survive. Denzel plays a lone warrior named Eli, who's determined to bring civilization back from the brink of destruction -- and save the future of humanity. Gary Oldman is Carnegie, the one man who truly stands in his way. Jennifer Beals and Mila Kunis also star.

ET's own Kevin Frazier was first on the set with Denzel and the cast early last year during production in the dusty desert, and Denzel told him, "Let me tell you something, no matter what people say, I did all the fights myself. … Of all the movies I made, I never had to do anything like this."

Mila's character is the daughter of Jennifer Beals, with Gary Oldman as her stepfather, and she goes on a journey with Eli in a wasteland where there's barely any food or water. "The sun exploded. It's crazy," she explained. "All the trees are dead, everything green is no longer there, there are no books, there's no literature, no education. It's the future, but imagine the future as of 2000 years ago."
