Frances Reid, who played the role of Alice Horton on "Days of our Lives" for more than 40 years and was one of the original cast members, has died. She was 95.

Reid, who passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 3, is one of the icons in the soap world and was honored with the Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004. In addition, she won the Soap Opera Digest Award for Outstanding Actress in a Mature Role in 1978, 1979, 1984 and 1985 and was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 1986/87 and for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 1978/79. Reid was inducted into the Television Academy's archives in 2003.

Reid's "Days of our Lives" castmates have tweeted the following:

Nadia Bjorlin (realRealNadiaB): "Rest in peace Frances Reid (Alice Horton). She was a great lady whom I feel honored to have known .. the heart and soul of 'Days of our Lives.'"

Shawn Christian (ShawnC4real): "Rest in peace Frances Reid. Condolences to your loved ones. Your stories and your spirit live in the hearts of those you have touched."

Alison Sweeney (Ali-Sweeney): "I'm so sad to hear the news about Frances Reid. She was a truly talented actress & and we are all lucky & proud to have known her. RIP."

NBC tells ET, "NBC is deeply saddened by the passing of Frances Reid. She was a true icon of the daytime genre and, while we mourn her passing, we also celebrate her long life and the tremendous talent she shared with her generations of fans. She will be sorely missed."

Her first television job was at NBC in "Prologue To Glory," which was followed by the role of Mrs. Moonlight in "Mrs. Moonlight" and Charlotte Corday in "Charlotte Corday." Reid's other television credits include the "Eleventh Hour," "Little Mister," "Wagon Train" and the movie-of-the-week "Mercy or Murder?"

In 1965, when Ted Corday, who was one of the creators of "Days of our Lives" offered Reid the role of 'Alice,' she initially passed. But she changed her mind because roles for women over 40 were scarce and she wanted to work.

She was married to the late actor Philip Bourneuf for 43 years. The couple had no children.
