Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander will always have The Light Between Oceans.

The real-life couple met while playing on-screen spouses in the romantic drama, but according to Fassbender, they didn't plan on falling in love -- "it just happened."

The 39-year-old actor opened up about his romance with Vikander in an interview with Good Morning Britain's Richard Arnold on Wednesday.

"Is it hard for you when everyone wants to ask you about her?' Arnold asked.

"No, it's not hard," Fassbender calmly stated. "I just answer what I want to answer."

"It just happened. It's good that it happened," he added. "It is what it is."

ET caught up with the couple in July, where they opened up about their seemingly instant chemistry.

"We had met at Toronto Film Festival and just on the dance floor," Vikander, 28, revealed, with Fassbender chiming in: "I thought [I was a good dancer] until she started dancing and then I felt like I had two left feet."

The pair said they first "properly" met during rehearsals for The Light Between Oceans in 2014, but their chemistry, Fassbender confessed, "was sort of there from the beginning."
