Lauren Graham Tells Insane Story About How a Wardrobe Piece Became a Symbol for the 'Gilmore Girls' Revival

Lorelai Gilmore's fashion choices might be psychic!

Oy with the signs already! Gilmore Girls fans may be anxiously awaiting the Netflix revival of the beloved mother-daughter series, but the cast has been trying to make the reboot work for years. Star Lauren Graham visited The Ellen DeGeneres Show, airing Tuesday, to talk about the experience and one particularly telling sign she got in the costume department.

“On the very first day I was so nervous and I couldn’t decide what to wear because it was the scene where you first see my character,” Graham explained. “I kept changing, changing, changing. Finally I had to go so I picked something off the rack, and my dresser pinned it because it was a little big.”

The pin poked her in the back several times that day, so her dresser cut the tag off her shirt. When the first day of filming was over, the shocked costume designer visited Graham’s dressing room to show her the tag.

“The tag from the shirt I picked on the first day playing this character for the second time and the tag says, ‘Lorelai 2,’” Graham said as DeGeneres’ audience gasped. “The shirt was called the Lorelai 2. It became such a symbol for me of all the special, magical, incredible things that had to come together and there were a bunch of those.”

With that incredible symbol driving them forward, the original stars of the show filmed A Year in the Life – four extended episodes of the show split by seasons of the year.

“I snapped back into it like no time had passed,” Graham said. “I have never had an experience like it. It was one of the happiest times of my life.”

At the recent premiere for the revival, Graham spoke with ET’s Leanne Aguilera about working on the secret project.

"I'm just so thankful! I'm so thankful we made it," Graham said. "And it's been such a big part of my life. I just got the feeling today, like, 'Oh, we can start to enjoy it now and share it with fans and not have to say no comment after we're asked any question.' So, it just feels really good."
