"Instead of directly responding to each of the media outlets that have sent emails and DM's, let me express how proud we are of Lamar for taking the necessary steps in his life's journey," Morales wrote. "This is a private situation that has become public for observation, speculation and judgment. This may be media fodder for some, but Lamar is a father, kin and a friend."

"Anyone that has dealt (or is dealing) with the same situation with a loved one or friend knows it's one day at a time," she continued. "In the meantime, Destiny, Lamar Jr. and I send light and positivity to their dad and hope you can do the same. Happy holidays!"

A source told ET on Monday that the 37-year-old athlete checked himself into the medical facility last week, and "it was his decision to go back."

"He wants to get better and recently realized he needs to do this for himself, and especially for his children," the source added. "He knows he needs help and unfortunately, this is something he'll need to take care of for the rest of his life. Drug and substance abuse is a serious issue. His family and friends are standing by him through this and know he will come out as a better person."

Earlier this month, Odom gave his first sit-down interview about the near-fatal overdose that landed him in the hospital last October. While chatting with The Doctors' Travis Stork, Odom detailed what happened the night he was found unconscious in a Nevada brothel.

"I didn't know until Khloe [Kardashian] had told me that I was in a coma," he said of his now-ex-wife. "I couldn't even speak at the time. I couldn't talk. Nothing would come out when I would open my mouth, so I was scared."

“I wasn't in a good place mentally, especially mentally before that incident happened," he said. "Me and [Khloe] at the time were going through some things. I was in a dark place. They say everything happens for a reason, so I guess the reason is I'm here and I can tell the story."
