Vanessa Hudgens Marks 1-Year Anniversary of Her Father's Death: 'I Know How Proud He Is'

Vanessa Hudgens is paying tribute to her late father, Greg, on the one-year anniversary of his death with touching posts on social media.

“Today marks one year since my dad passed away,” the 28-year-old actress captioned a photo showing her surrounded by angel wings and a halo on Twitter on Monday. “He's my angel looking down on me and I know how proud he is. Forever in my heart he will be ”

“I keep trucking on but still feel his presence in my heart,” she added on Instagram. “And there he will forever stay. ❤?”

The former High School Musical star sadly lost her dad to cancer on the eve of her televised Grease: Live! performance last year.

"I am so sad to say that last night my daddy, Greg passed away from stage 4 cancer," she tweeted at the time. "Thank you to everyone who kept him in your prayers."

She then dedicated her performance in the Fox production to him.

News of her father’s illness was first revealed at the 2015 Industry Dance Awards, where Hudgens opened up about how her life had been touched by cancer while accepting an award for Breakthrough Performer.

"Last year, my boyfriend, Austin [Butler], lost his mom, Lori, to cancer, and my dad has just been recently diagnosed with stage four cancer," Vanessa said. "Let me tell you, I hate cancer. I hate cancer with every cell of my being.”

The anniversary isn’t the only significant date for Hudgens this week.
