When asked if Americans should give President Donald Trump a break, McConaughey responded, "Well, they don’t have a choice now.”

“He's our president. And it’s very dynamic and as divisive of an inauguration and time as we’ve had," he added. "At the same time, it’s time for us to embrace and shake hands with this fact and be constructive with him over the next four years.”

Last month, ET caught up with McConaughey at the premiere of Gold in New York City, where he praised his wife, Camila Alves, for "uprooting everything" to support his film projects.

"You do all this work and people see it, and when they see it, they think you made it last week," McConaughey explained. "But, some of us have been a part of it for five years. We picked up the family, uprooted everything, went to Thailand, did it, they came with me."

"I have a wife that thankfully tells me when I go to work, 'Don't look in the rearview mirror. Go do your work, get obsessed with that. I got it. I got your back.' So it makes the whole process so much more enjoyable for me," he added.
