Matt Damon may have dropped out of Harvard, but he's right at home at Tufts -- so much so that the actor was spotted working out at the university's gym on Wednesday.

The Great Wall star and a pal headed to the Boston school's Steve Tisch Sports and Fitness Center, where he used the StairMaster, lifted weights, and posed for selfies with a crowd of very surprised students.

"He was definitely ripped," Josh Morris, a senior at Tufts, told People of Damon. "I seemed to be the only person who noticed him, and couldn't pass up the opportunity to say hi. He was with an older gentleman who appeared to be a friend or trainer."

"Many students were saying hi, and he seemed very friendly," he added. "I assume he knew what he was getting into working out at a university gym."

Damon grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with his childhood friend, Ben Affleck, and clearly hasn't forgotten his roots. ET recently caught up with Affleck, who reflected on the pair's decades-long friendship, calling their relationship "valuable" and "precious."

"I can't tell you how valuable it is to have somebody who's been through things with you, ups and downs, who knows what your life experience is like, who can identify with that," Affleck said. "It's an incredibly valuable friendship and it's very precious and so is my friendship with my brother. I don't know what I would do without those guys."
