Hopper Penn made it through his darkest days after an ultimatum from his dad.
The 23-year-old son of actor Sean Penn posed for the U.K.'s Evening Standard
, where he opened up about his past battle with meth addiction, as well as how his father's tough love helped him find his way.
"I was doing a lot of stuff but meth was the main one that brought me down," Hopper revealed. "I went to rehab because I woke up in a hospital and my dad said, 'Rehab? Or bus bench?' I was like, 'I’ll take the bed.'"
Even though it was quite literally a rude awakening, Hopper is thankful things happened the way they did.
"Thank God I got out of that because that was the worst time in my life," he admitted. "Because it's not fun when it gets to a point where you just need it."
Nowadays, Hopper has gotten his life together, taking part in a modeling campaign last year with sister Dylan Penn, where he bared a striking resemblance to his dad.
