Val Kilmer is a real Cate Blanchett fan.

The 57-year-old actor expressed his admiration for Blanchett on Friday in a series of tweets, and said he once flew to Australia just to talk to her -- but was instead met by her husband, Andrew Upton. He then shared that he had two dreams with Blanchett in them, and noted that they were without her husband.

"And recently I've had 2 dreams with #CateBlanchett in them. Her husband wasn't in either of them," he wrote in a now deleted tweet.

On Saturday, he continued his praise for the Oscar-winning 47-year-old actress.

"She's just as amazing in person," he wrote. "Some superstars aren't -- some superstars don't do a thing to ya in person -- Cate is so real it's almost unreal. Once I did a cameo just to hang w/ #cateblanchett who picked up a shovel in our sc. I was so dazzled by HOW she picked it up I forgot my line."

He later posted a black-and-white pic of Blanchett, writing, "I mean even if she couldn't act you know what I mean?"

Kilmer defended himself on Sunday, after some Twitter users criticized his tweets.

"I've never done said or written a single idea that wasn't of the highest respect and admiration for #cateblanchett or any other great talent," he wrote in now deleted tweets. "She's a friend of mine and I've met her husband thru the years and we've all gotten along just fine. Anyone who thinks I need to curb my enthusiasm for a great rare artist doesn't understand how difficult the job is and how we artists count on the respect of our peers."

"She will back up every word I say n love that I say I love her," he added. "I would love an actor I didn't even enjoy if he flew the world to talk about a role."

Presumably, Kilmer will be first in line to see Ocean's 8, starring Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter and Sarah Paulson. Watch the video below for the first look at the highly anticipated film, which hits theaters next summer.
