Chad Michael Murray is taking on the world of novels, penning a romantic-thriller with acclaimed author Heather Graham. American Drifter follows the story of an American soldier backpacking through Rio de Janeiro.

ET’s Jennifer Peros hopped on the phone with Murray, where the former One Tree Hill actor opened up about his inspiration for writing the book.

"I wrote this for kind of the fans that have come up with me" Murray says, referring to One Tree Hill's romantic storylines. "A lot of those fans loved the romance aspect of it, so I took what I knew of it, and brought it to the table."

As for whether the book will eventually be adapted into a screenplay, Murray, 35, says it was “conceptualized in my head as a film” but we’ll have to wait and see what the novel brings when it's released on Nov. 14.

"Where this story stems is an adventure story about freedom and all the things we dream of right at your fingertips, and knowing that they are there," the Sun Records star says. "You just got to be creative."

While promoting his new project, Murray couldn't help but gush about his newborn baby girl with wife Sarah Roemer.

"You become your strongest and weakest the second your child is born," the father of two tells ET.

"You become the strongest because you will do anything to fight for this little unbelievable love that you've never experienced times a million," he explained. "At the same time, you now have the largest Achilles heel and it's so obvious to everybody."

And from the sound of it, the little bundle of joy is taking center stage at the Murray house.
