Val Kilmer is making no apologies for his love for Cate Blanchett.
The 57-year-old actor made headlines for going on a weekend-long Twitter spree about his admiration for the Oscar-winning Australian actress -- and ended up deleting a few of the tweets -- which he addressed on Wednesday during his appearance at the Irvine Improv in Irvine, California. When asked by an audience member during a Q&A about who his favorite co-star to work with is, Kilmer said he couldn't say Blanchett.
"I wrote nice things about Cate Blanchett on Twitter and now I'm a pervert," he said. "I don't know why loving an actor that's so talented is creepy, but I guess I'm creepy."
"I write about all my friends," he added. "There's no story. Nothing weird."
Kilmer also tweeted a selfie with the crowd on Wednesday.
He later posted a black-and-white pic of Blanchett, writing, "I mean even if she couldn't act you know what I mean?"
Kilmer defended himself on Sunday, after some Twitter users criticized his tweets.
"I've never done said or written a single idea that wasn't of the highest respect and admiration for #cateblanchett or any other great talent," he wrote in now deleted tweets. "She's a friend of mine and I've met her husband thru the years and we've all gotten along just fine. Anyone who thinks I need to curb my enthusiasm for a great rare artist doesn't understand how difficult the job is and how we artists count on the respect of our peers."
"She will back up every word I say n love that I say I love her," he added. "I would love an actor I didn't even enjoy if he flew the world to talk about a role."
