ET Obsessions: 'The Handmaid's Tale,' 'How to Be a Latin Lover' and 'Places' by Lea Michele

Here at ET, we’re obsessed with a lot of things -- and
for the week of April 24 to April 30, this is what we’re most excited about:

Why We’re Obsessed With ‘The Lost Tapes: L.A. Riots’

On April 29, 1992, following the acquittal of four white
LAPD officers in the beating of a black motorist named Rodney King, Los Angeles
became a war zone as protestors took to the streets to stand up to the
injustice that had occurred. The protests quickly turned violent, leaving 50
people dead and hundreds more in hospitals, while laying waste to parts of the
city. On the 25th anniversary of the event, a trio of documentaries --
A&E’s L.A. Burning: The Riots 25 Years Later, Showtime’s Burn
Motherf**ker, Burn!
and The Lost Tapes: L.A. Riots --
look back on what happened during those six days. The latter is part of an
ongoing Smithsonian docuseries -- other episodes include Pearl Harbor and the
Patty Hearst kidnapping -- telling the story almost entirely through archival
news footage and home videos.

The Lost Tapes: L.A. Riots premieres Sunday,
April 23 on the Smithsonian Channel.

Why We're Obsessed With 'The Handmaid's Tale'

In Hulu’s adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel
about a totalitarian theocracy that has overthrown the U.S. government and
treats women as property of the state, we get a misogynistic looking glass of a
world that is deeply terrifying and tragic with The
Handmaid’s Tale
. Taking the lead as Offred, one of the few fertile
women forced into sexual servitude, Elisabeth Moss continues to make a name for
herself beyond her breakout role in Mad Men. Also joining Moss in
this chilling series are Alexis Bledel and Samira Wiley.

Why We're Obsessed With 'Inside the FBI: New York'

With Inside the FBI: New York,
we getDick Wolf’s latest unscripted project, a docuseries pulling
back the curtain on the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s flagship New York
office. Filmed for more than a year with unprecedented access (granted by FBI
director James Comey) to the largest field office in the country, the series
explores the FBI’s evolution since the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Along with Wolf,
Emmy-winning filmmaker Marc Levin also signed on for the project. “[Marc’s]
extraordinary access has resulted in a never-before-seen look at the lives and
work of the FBI agents who keep Americans safe,” said the Law &
Order
producer. We think this unscripted series will be a nice
companion to Wolf’s scripted FBI franchises.

Why We're Obsessed With 'Places' by Lea Michele

Three years after releasing her debut album, Louder,
Lea Michele is finally giving fans what they’ve been waiting for -- new music.
Packed with emotional ballads, Michele’s sophomore album, Places,
includes a song (“Hey You”) about her late ex-boyfriend, Cory Monteith. In a recent interview,
Michele revealed she didn’t initially want to include the track about Monteith
on the album, "It’s sort of a sensitive subject for me that’s hard to talk
about, and I didn’t want anything on the record that I couldn’t talk about. But
it just felt so beautiful. … The song is pretty specific, and people are gonna
make of it what they want, but I wanted to make a song about loss that wasn’t necessarily
sad," referring to Monteith’s sudden death in July 2013.

Why We're Obsessed With 'How to Be a Latin Lover'

From riches to rags, fading gigolo Maximo (Eugenio Derbez)
finds himself dumped after his 80-year-old millionaire wife leaves him and he
is forced to live with his estranged sister (Salma Hayek) and her preteen son –
it’s then that Maximo has an opportunity to learn about love and family for the
first time. And since this is a laugh-out-loud comedy about dating don’ts, ET stopped
by the set and asked Derbez and Hayek to reveal the worst pick-up lines they
have either heard or given. "Nobody tries to pick me up anymore!"
Hayek admitted, after being married for eight years. But the “Latin Lover” star
was ready with the worst pick-up line he’s ever told, “It must be terrible to
have me and then lose me."

Why We're Obsessed With 'The Circle'

From the Belle of the ball to the cyber world, Emma Watson
is now starring in a new sci-fi thriller alongside Tom Hanks and the late
Bill Paxton
in The Circle. The film, directed by James
Ponsoldt from a novel and screenplay by Dave Eggers, is about the role of
technology in our lives as we trade convenience for surveillance. In the
chilling trailer we
see Mae Holland (Watson) land a position at the titular tech and social media
company and soon becomes involved with a Zuckerberg-type CEO (Tom Hanks) who
promises a future of total transparency. Do you think you behave better or
worse when you’re being watched?
