Germaine Mason has died at 34.
The British high jumper, who earned a silver medal during the 2008 Beijing Olympics, was involved in a fatal motorcycle accident in Jamaica, the Great Britain Olympic team confirmed via Twitter on Thursday.
"Team GB are incredibly saddened by the sudden death of Olympic medalist Germaine Mason," the team tweeted. "Rest in peace, Germaine."
The tragic crash occured while Mason was on a motorycle outing with several Olympic athletes in the Jamaican city of Kingston, including Jamaican gold medalist Usain Bolt, the U.K.'s Guardian
After the crash, the Jamaican Constabulary tweeted, "Germaine Mason, 34, Jamaican-born athlete and former national high jumper, died in a motorcycle crash this morning."
Mason's teammates and fellow Olympians took to Twitter after news broke to offer their shock and condolences.
