Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds wowed on the red carpet at the Met Gala on Monday night, but it wasn’t just their high-fashion looks that stole the show.

The A-list couple also took a moment to gush about each other to Humans of New York photographer Brandon Stanton. The Deadpool actor had some swoon-worthy words to say about his wife of four years, focusing not on her stunning Atelier Versace gown but rather on her heart.

“She always responds with empathy. She meets anger with empathy,” he said of Lively. “She meets hate with empathy. She’ll take the time to imagine what happened to a person when they were five or six years old. And she’s made me a more empathetic person.”

Reynolds went on to note that it was Lively’s empathy that helped repair Reynolds’ damaged relationship with his late father.

“I had a very fractured relationship with my father. Before he died, she made me remember things I didn’t want to remember. She made me remember the good times,” the father of two said.

In addition to being incredibly sweet, the pair also stunned on the blue carpet at the annual NYC event. Lively rocked a gold Atelier Versace gown with a blue feather train while Reynolds went for a dapper suit and matching blue bowtie.
