Sarah Michelle Gellar is opening up about her struggle with postpartum depression, sharing a message of support for other mothers who are dealing with their own emotional challenges and advocating for political outreach.
The actress and mother of two took to Instagram on Tuesday, to get candid about her experiences.
"Having kids is wonderful, and life changing, and rarely what you're prepared for. I love my children more than anything in the world," Gellar, 40, wrote alongside a sweet throwback photo of her holding her daughter, Charlotte, when she was just a baby. "But like a lot of women, I too struggled with postpartum depression after my first baby was born."
"I got help, and made it through, and every day since has been the best gift I could ever have asked for," she continued. "To those of you going through this, know that you're not alone and that it really does get better."

Gellar concluded her emotional post with a call to action for all those who "believe that postpartum depression should be covered by healthcare."
"Please take a moment and go to callmecongress.com today," Gellar implored her fans. "Find your rep's numbers and let them know. #NotAPreExistingCondition."
Gellar and her husband, actor Freddie Prinze Jr., welcomed Charlotte in September 2009. The couple welcomed their second child, son Rocky, in September 2012.
