Do we have a new 007 in our future?

King Arthur
star Charlie Hunnam appeared on Late Night with Conan O’Brien on Thursday and addressed some speculation that he could be in line to play the next James Bond.

“I can say two things. I’m English and I look devilishly handsome in a suit,” the 37-year-old said. “I can say three things… and nobody has called me about playing James Bond, so I’m pretty sure that’s not going to happen.”

“They’re calling me nonstop,” the Late Night host joked in return. “They wanna go a different way with Bond, apparently.”

Although it doesn’t sound like Hunnam has been gunning for a Bond role, he doesn’t sound opposed to it either!

“If you decide not to do it, you can just throw your ole’ pal Charlie’s name in the hat,” he said.

If the Sons of Anarchy star does want to play Bond in the future, perhaps he should take a page from his own book. Hunnam appeared on The Graham Norton Show on Friday and admitted that he flirted his way into his first TV role on the show Byker Grove.

“I was discovered in a shoe shop on Christmas Eve,” he explained. “I had a foolproof strategy with my Christmas shopping. I would go to the pub on Christmas Eve at 12, and at 4 – one hour before the shops shut – I would start my Christmas shopping. And I had the 60-minute frenzied shop. I was in [a sports store] trying on some trainers for my brother and having a bit of a dance around, drunk obviously.”

“There was a lady staring at me and so I blew her a kiss, and gave her a sort of little wink. It turned out that she was the production manager of Byker Grove. She said, ‘I think you’re quite lovely.’ I said, ‘I do too!’”

“She invited me in, I did an audition and they gave me a part, which I haven’t seen since I did it — which was 20 years ago.”

Of course, Norton had some old Byker Grove footage ready and waiting. In the scene, Hunnam plays a male model trying to teach a fellow model the ways of the workplace.

“Are you in awe? Don’t be nervous,” Hunnam joked after watching the clip. “I’m still the same old Charlie!”
