ET is first on the set of ABC's upcoming reality series "Extreme Weight Loss," and we're taking you behind the scenes!

"I've always known I was overweight," says Rachel, a 21-year-old school teacher from Georgia who weighs 385 pounds. "I knew all along I needed to change and I've tried, but nothing really would ever work."

Rachel is one of several extremely overweight individuals striving to drop serious pounds with the help of trainer Chris Powell on the ABC show, which will chronicle the weight-loss story of each participant in a one-hour, stand-alone episode.

Other people featured on the series include Alex, a 23-year-old student and customer-service rep from Georgia who weighs 450 pounds; Wally, a 26-year-old husband and father from Chicago who also weighs 450 pounds; and Dana, a 44-year-old youth counselor from Tennessee who tips the scales at 497 pounds.

"Such unique stories and such incredible individuals,” trainer Chris says of the participants he selected for the show based on letters they wrote him expressing their desire to change. “The best part about this is knowing how many people they will inspire by going through this transformation and changing their lives without drugs and surgery -- that’s powerful."

The ABC series is scheduled to air next year. Watch our video for more!
