While the world is watching in rapt fascination as Prince William and Kate Middleton prepare to wed, let's not forget the other royal wedding that will take place in just months…that is, the wedding of Zara Phillips and her fiancé, World Cup-winning professional rugby player, Mike Tindall.
Zara, the second child of Princess Anne and Queen Elizabeth II's eldest granddaughter, has been coined by the media as the "Rebel Royal" for displaying rather unconventional behavior for a member of the royal family. She had a very different path laid out for her than that of her cousins, Prince William and Prince Harry, as her parents reportedly refused to accept an official title for their daughter when she was born, in hopes of giving her as normal a life as possible.
Zara was educated at the finest schools in England and Scotland and was very successful in her studies. While she has made a name for herself as an accomplished equestrian and was even named BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2006, she has also been a tabloid favorite due to what some call shocking behavior. She famously sported nose and naval piercings and took time off from her studies to explore and experience the nightlife in Australia and New Zealand. Before cohabitating with Tindall, she reportedly lived with former boyfriend, jockey Richard Johnson, and the pair was criticized in 2002 for reportedly selling photos and an interview to Hello! Magazine.
A little over one month after Clarence House announced the engagement of Prince William and Kate Middleton, Buckingham Palace announced Zara's engagement to her professional rugby player beau. Zara was reportedly shocked but "very happy" that Tindall, her boyfriend of 7 years, proposed at the home they share in Gloucestershire. Tindall reportedly opted to present Phillips with an engagement ring that he had specially made, as opposed to the use of a family heirloom.
The wedding is scheduled to take place on July 30 in Scotland.
