Speaking at a press conference, L.A. City Councilwoman Jan Perry called the public memorial -- which takes place next Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Staples Center -- a special event "with the potential to impact public safety." She urged fans to consider watching the service on TV, via a world-wide video feed being made available to the networks.

Tim Leiweke, the president and CEO of sports/entertainment corporation AEG, said 17,500 free tickets are being released to the legions of fans expected in town. Eleven thousand tickets are for the service at L.A.'s Staples Center, while 6,500 more are for seats at the nearby Nokia Theater, where the event is being simulcast.

The late star was at work on a pop album and classical, instrumental pieces, says Billboard.com. On the pop album, he was collaborating with songwriter Claude Kelly and R&B star Akon, who says Michael was inspired by popular demand for tickets to his shows.

"He said, 'My fans are still there. They still love me. They're alive,'" Akon says. "His kids are like his first priority, and they had never seen him perform live. He was trying to create the most incredible show for his kids."

'Spider-Man' star Tobey Maguire has lifted the web of mystery surrounding his newborn son's name.

Tobey and wife Jennifer Meyer named their second child Otis Tobias Maguire, says People.com.

Otis was born in May, joining big sister Ruby, 2.

A rep for the late Michael Jackson's personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, says the doctor would prefer to grieve in private.

"He will be mourning in private because he feels his presence would remind people of Michael Jackson's death, and the doctor would prefer that people remember his friend as he was in life," Murray's spokesperson says.

As for when Murray might comment on the medical attention he gave Jackson, the doctor is "completely off the radar until the toxicology results are revealed," his rep says, adding, "He's not even talking to friends and family, and I haven't even spoken to him personally, either."

California Attorney General Jerry Brown has joined the police investigation into Michael Jackson's death. Read on to find out why.

Brown says his office will assist police in determining whether prescription drugs had anything to do with Michael Jackson's death, says the Associated Press. Brown says key information could be provided by a records search of the state database that keeps track of doctors who’ve written drug prescriptions, the amount of the drugs prescribed, and the patients who’ve received them.

On Wednesday night, a federal law-enforcement source told ET that the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) had also joined the investigation.

The concert promoter behind Michael Jackson's canceled 50-date concert series says its multi-million dollar losses might be covered by insurance, depending on Jackson's cause of death.

Randy Phillips, the chief executive of AEG Live, the concert promoter, tells the Associated Press that insurance will help pay for the losses on Jackson’s canceled residence at London’s O2 arena if the King of Pop’s death is ruled accidental -- even if by drug overdose – not if, however, Jackson passed away due to natural causes.

Phillips says AEG Live acquired $17.5 million in insurance coverage via Lloyd’s of London. But the company spent $25 million to $30 million in advance money for production costs and to Jackson and his staff, covering expenses that included Jackson’s debts and the rent on his L.A. mansion.

An attorney for Debbie Rowe is speaking out about whether Rowe will pursue custody of her two children with Michael Jackson.

Echoing what ET reported from its sources earlier this morning, Rowe's attorney tells the Associated Press that she is still deciding whether to seek custody of her children with Jackson, son Michael "Prince" and daughter Paris-Michael.

The late star's youngest son, Prince "Blanket," was delivered via surrogate.

ET can confirm that the hearing to determine custody of Michael Jackson's children has been delayed.

The hearing that had originally been set for Monday, July 6, has been rescheduled to Monday, July 13 at 8:30 a.m.

Perhaps best known for his TV role on "The Streets of San Francisco" with Michael Douglas, Malden began his almost six-decade-long career on the stage. His Broadway debut was in 1937 with a small part in Golden Boy, and ten years later he was starring in the original productions of Arthur Miller's All My Sons and Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire opposite Marlon Brando, which led to the film version that earned Malden an Academy Award in 1952.

A federal law-enforcement source tells ET that the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has joined the investigation into Michael Jackson's death.

ET can confirm that police have released a car seized from Michael Jackson's rented home in L.A.

An LAPD rep tells us the seized car was approved for release by detectives. So far, there is no word as to whether the vehicle's registered owner has claimed it.

Last week, police impounded the car of Jackson's personal physician Dr. Conrad Murray as part of their investigation into the late star’s death. Police say Murray has been cooperative with them.

Actor Karl Malden -- perhaps best known for his role as Detective Mike Stone in the '70s TV series "The Streets of San Francisco" starring opposite Michael Douglas -- has passed away at 97, the Associated Press reports.

Malden won an Oscar for his role in the 1951 film "A Streetcar Named Desire" as Harold 'Mitch' Mitchell, and was president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences from 1989-92.

In addition to being an American Express pitchman in the '70s and '80s and starring in such big-screen classics as 'On the Waterfront,' 'How the West Was Won' and 'Patton,' the actor also had a cameo in the critically acclaimed TV show "West Wing" in 2000, where he played Father Thomas Cavanaugh.

Farrah Fawcett was remembered Tuesday at a Los Angeles funeral that was full of love, emotion and prayer.

In a Los Angeles cathedral that was filled with yellow, white and peach flowers, and in a service that included a rendition of "Amazing Grace" and bagpipes, Farrah's longtime love Ryan O'Neal and their son Redmond O'Neal read bible passages to say goodbye.

Redmond, who was allowed to leave jail for his mother's funeral, gave the first reading at the funeral, followed by a reading from his father, who said that his son did a beautiful job. Many mourners expressed their love and support for Redmond.

Making one of his first public appearances in nine years, the late Michael Jackson took to the stage in a 2006 tribute to him at the World Music Awards.

Beyonce presented the King of Pop with the Diamond Award -- an award given to artists who have sold over 100 million albums. The event also marked the 25th anniversary of Michael's landmark album, Thriller.

The tribute included a performance by Chris Brown.

Ryan O'Neal, Alana Stewart, Kate Jackson and more stars and family are currently remembering Farrah Fawcett, who passed away last Thursday, at a downtown Los Angeles funeral.

Family members including Farrah's father, James, and her son, Redmond O'Neal, are present at the farewell service, as well as her longtime love Ryan's daughter Tatum O'Neal. Other stars in attendance include "Ghostbusters" star Ernie Hudson, model Cheryl Tiegs, actors Garry Shandling and Dick Van Patten, and hairstylist Jose Eber.

The service is being held at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic cathedral in downtown Los Angeles.
