Sarah Paulson admits that her life is rather "unconventional," but that's not because she's dating Holland Taylor.
The 42-year-old actress is featured in Net-a-Porter’s digital magazine, The Edit, and talks about her longtime romance with the 74-year-old actress and their 32-year age difference.
"My life choices are, um, unconventional," she confides. "I’m with a much older person and people find that totally fascinating and odd, and, to me, it’s the least interesting thing about me."
Paulson adds, "But I do feel a bit unconventional."
The Emmy winner shares that when she first started dating Taylor, she was told that it could have a negative impact on her acting career. "Early on, when people found out I was with Holland, some said: 'I think you have to be careful, I’m afraid it’s going to affect your career negatively,'" she recalls. "I was like, 'What?' It never occurred to me at all."
Paulson confesses that she was even apprehensive to mention Taylor when she accepted her Emmy for her role as Marcia Clarke in The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story. "It occurred to me, 'Should I not [say I love you to Taylor onstage]?' And then I thought, 'Why would I not?' The fact I’m having this thought is wrong," she remembers thinking to herself. "But I had a moment of societal concern; wondering if, maybe, people who didn’t know that about me would be like, 'Wait, what?' But then, you know, I did it anyway."
She further proclaims, "I am a woman of a certain age who chose not to have children, and who has made my career my priority. I am the captain of my own ship, and I’ve never looked to anyone else to validate that, or tell me it’s OK."
In addition to opening up about her dating life, Paulson also dishes about the text chain she's on with Ocean's 8 stars Sandra Bullock, Rihanna, Anne Hathaway, Cate Blanchett, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter and Awkwafina.
"I’m not going to lie, it is a very cool chain to be part of," she muses. "We can go weeks without a chirp, then someone sends one message, and it’s like -- ‘brp, brp, brp’ -- your phone just blows up for hours."
Paulson was also quite candid with ET back in March when she revealed whether she'd ever consider being a mother one day.
