Raucous Fun in 'Year One'

Canvas background demo

Jack Black and Michael Cera don sandals and swords for the hilarious biblical epic 'Year One,' in theaters June 19, and we're behind the scenes on the dusty set with the funnymen and the rest of the cast!

"Gonna slip on my biblical robes, get into hair and make-up," says Jack at the beginning of the work day. "There's a chill in the air and an excitement in the breeze. The 'Year One.' So it began."

'Year One' stars Jack and Michael as Zed and Oh, just your average hunter-gatherers in search of what every red-blooded male craves -- women, food, fun and acceptance.

"My character, Zed, starts off in caveman times -- kind of Adam and Eve/caveman times -- just a very tribal lifestyle he's living, in his little primitive village where there's just hunters and gatherers," explains Jack. "He doesn't really fit in with the other hunter dudes, and he's a searcher -- he's looking for meaning in this life, and that resonated with me, personally, because I think of myself as a searcher as well."

Banished from their primitive village, Zed and Oh set off on an epic "road trip" through the ancient world, with hilarious results.

"[Oh] always thought that the world ended on the other side of those mountains, and obviously it doesn't," says Michael. "I guess he learns about himself and is put in situations that he's never been in and has to suffer some indignities."

"Moral to the story is to appreciate the miracle of life and don't count on stuff happening afterwards," says Jack. "Enjoy it now, and take responsibility for what we do now."

Also starring Oliver Platt, David Cross, Hank Azaria, Juno Temple, Olivia Wilde and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, 'Year One' is directed by Harold Ramis ('Groundhog Day,' 'Analyze This').
