True Detective has added Stephen Dorff to the cast for season three.

According to a press release, the 44-year-old actor will play Roland West, "an Arkansas State Investigator who, along with his partner, has his life and career influenced over three decades by a baffling crime."

As previously reported, Mahershala Ali was the first to join the cast of the anthology series after it was picked up for a third season by HBO last fall. The Oscar winner will play Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas, in the latest installment, which will tell the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods.

Carmen Ejogo will play Amelia Reardon, an Arkansas schoolteacher with a connection to two missing children in 1980.

During an interview with ET last month, the 44-year-old actress said she was looking forward to the "challenge" of trying to live up to True Detective's first season, which starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.

"I’m personally excited to explore what that world [the Ozarks] was like in the time period that we’ll be exploring," Ejogo shared. "It’s always such a privilege as an actor when you get to encounter an entirely new environment, and you have to explore and research it to be able to inhabit it and to be able to convey it."

"That appealed to me, trying to find a way to authentically convey a moment in time that has passed all of us and probably doesn’t exist there now," she continued. "It’s going to be an interesting challenge to recreate that."
