Many know him as the sexy star of the NBC hit "Undercovers," but Boris Kodjoe is opening up to ET's Kevin Frazier about a very personal true story.
Boris and his wife, 'Remember the Titans' star Nicole Ari Parker, are sharing the story of their daughter Sophie, who was born with spina bifida. Spina bifida is a birth defect of the spinal cord that could affect one's bodily functions.
At first, little Sophie showed no symptoms at all, but her babysitter noticed that something was wrong when she was just two. After a race to the hospital and a slew of tests, Boris and Nicole learned that the nerves in Sophie's bladder were damaged beyond repair and that she would need constant catheterization. "Something dies in you," Boris says about the moment he first learned the news.
But their story is one of hope and survival, and the stars say one of their main goals is to prevent shame and insecurity in Sophie when relating to her peers. The couple, who are also parents to a son named Nicolas who does not have spina bifida, are sharing their inspiring story in a documentary about Sophie and other children who struggle with spina bifida.
