'Dancing with the Stars'' Maksim Chmerkovskiy Burns the Floor

In 2009, when he wasn't performing on "Dancing with the Stars," Maksim Chmerkovskiy twice joined the cast of Burn the Floor, the Latin and ballroom dance extravaganza, on Broadway. ET is with the popular ballroom dancer when he visits the current cast of the hit show.
"I am a huge fan of Burn the Floor, Maksim tells ET. "We were asked if we knew anybody who wanted to be in the cast of the Broadway run. I was, 'What about us? What about me?' The next thing you know, I am on Broadway in the show that I still think is hardest thing I have ever done in my life."
Maksim says that the time he spent performing in Burn the Floor, which is a worldwide hit, gave him a fresh perspective when it came time to return to "Dancing with the Stars."
"You get stale doing the same show. I love 'Dancing with the Stars' and what I have done," he says. "Redundancy kicks in. Burn the Floor gave me new inspiration. I love the theater. I love the stage. It was my first experience. Out of nowhere, I was nominated for the Astaire Award. I had no idea."
Burn the Floor was first performed at Sir Elton John's 50th birthday celebration at the Hammersmith Palais Ballroom, London in 1997.
