Actor Brandon Mychal Smith dished to ET's Niecy Nash on Demi Lovato leaving her tour prematurely while backstage at last night's "Dancing with the Stars."
Brandon has joined the cast of ABC's "Skating with the Stars" but he also stars on Disney's "Sonny with a Chance" alongside Lovato, and he described his co-star as a "strong soul."
"If there's anything that's being portrayed in the media as problematic, it probably isn't," said Brandon. "This industry is very brutal and occasionally you just need to take 20 or 30 minutes to yourself."
Brandon admitted to Niecy that he relies on his family to keep him grounded, saying, "My family comes over every Sunday. We do Taco Night and I bring all my close friends… That's kind of like the reset portion of my life."
The actor hadn't spoken to Lovato since the incident but he did have some words of encouragement for the young singer: "I applaud her for actually having the maturity to let them know, 'Hey, I need my space.'"
"Skating with the Stars" will premiere after "Dancing with the Stars" on Monday, November 22.
