After decades in entertainment, veteran TV host Regis Philbin announced that he's leaving his morning talk show.

Philbin, 79, revealed at the top of his show "Live! with Regis and Kelly" that he will be retiring after this year. He has hosted the program for 28 years with Kelly Ripa being his most recent co-host.

He didn't give a specific out date but did say it would be sometime in the summer or fall. Philbin told the audience and viewers at home, "We'll have a lot of fun between now and then."

His co-host Ripa reacted to the news, saying, "It has been a pleasure and privilege and a dream come true and I wish I could do something to make you change your mind. I love listening to you every day."
